Steps to Be Successful

Steps to be successful is part two of my 3-part series on creating personal success by accessing your intuition. Intuition is key to being the unique person that other people will want to learn from.

Your uniqueness will magnetically draw people to you.

I am presenting some strategies that anyone can use to learn more about themselves. I highly recommend using whatever you need to in your quest to be the best you that you can be.

Why Is Intuition Important?

Intuition is your internal guidance system. It is there to help you and direct your path.

The definition of intuition is: “The ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning”.

That definition should tell you how important intuition is for helping you in your life.

  • Intuition is that feeling you get around other people that tells you something is not right.
  • It tells you to take a different route than normal.
  • Or to get that spare tire fixed asap.
  • And to get off that dark trail and get back into a well lit area.

There are a lot of tools that can help you learn to trust your intuition.

All of them are available to help you ‘weed out’ the voices in your head that are not yours. You know the ones:

  • Voices from parents, teachers, co-workers and strangers or anyone who says you “can’t”.
  • The voices that tell you that life is hard and you have to struggle until you die.
  • Or voices that tell you that success is only for the lucky few.

Those voices.

Since I have started using these tools, I have been led on a completely new path in my life. Because now the only voice in my head is my intuition.

A path that gives me hope for my future.

I know that when I return to work after my injury is healed, that I can continue all the things that I am doing now to create my own personal successful future!

As well, knowing that I am “creating” my life fills my heart to overflowing!

Learning to trust your intuition comes in handy in all areas of life, from where to go on vacation or what to cook for dinner.

Life is just easier when you trust yourself.

To be successful with anything, YOU MUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF and your ability to be successful. This is where your intuition comes in. Your intuition will guide you on the right path, as long as you trust it.

Steps To Success

Add these tools to your self-care toolbox. You can reprogram your thinking to that of a successful person if you persevere with it.

I had so many mental blocks about earning money, being successful, and creating a life I love. For a while I thought my ‘work’ was not working.

Then one day I noticed a bunch of things had clicked on my blog:

  • My Pinterest marketing took off and my traffic doubled.
  • I was getting multiple sign-ups daily for my email list
  • I was getting more affiliate commissions

We are not taught to plan for and create success.

Unless you have parents who can teach you, you have to rely on any mentors that you can find. I did not know any personally, so I read books by successful people:

Jack Canfield – Success Principles

Tony Robbins – Awaken The Giant Within

I also search on YouTube for videos, and most people give the same advice for newbies: journaling, meditation, gratitude. These practices help you access intuition.

You must break your blocks to success

Blocks are mental stories we tell ourselves about why we can’t do things, like “no one in our family has ever been rich” or “I don’t know how”. These blocks are ideas put in your head long ago; many are familial, which means they are multi-generational blocks from your family.

You need to break blocks that hold you back: negativity, money blocks (I had a ton of those), and fear of success/failure (= procrastination).

I use the following techniques, but feel free to use whatever you need to change your thinking: affirmations or mantras, hypnosis, or meditation.

1. Journaling

I cannot recommend writing in a journal enough.

Writing in your journal is not the same as keeping a diary.

It is more about getting your thoughts out of your head. I feel like I have cleared out about half of the useless thoughts and negative energy since I started.

It’s an on-going process, but worthwhile.

You can also drive out of town and scream your thoughts and frustrations, or if you have a trusted counselor you can tell them.

Journaling is great because you can say the things that you do not want your family and friends to know that you think, like:

  • I HATE THAT PERSON!!
  • Or I WISH SO AND SO WOULD JUST JUMP OFF OF A CLIFF!
  • Or HOW DID THAT PERSON GET PROMOTED OVER ME???

It’s not that you want to dislike someone. This is more about clearing negative energy.

Journaling is great for the frustrations of life

About work, children, home, and problems in general. Salesclerk was ignorant to you at the store? Write it out! Got cut off in traffic? Journal it out.

The thing about life these days is that it is busy. We do not give ourselves proper time to process events.

They do not resolve properly if we do not deal with them, and they clutter our thinking with unprocessed feelings.

You can do this on your computer or in a nice journal from the dollar store.

Set a timer for 5 minutes and just write anything that comes into your head. This is called “free writing”.

If you do not know where to start, try writing “I do not know what I am doing here” and then tell yourself why you don’t.

When I started doing this, I thought I was doing it wrong.

Now I just let it happen because any clearing is good clearing.

I have journals of various sizes all over my home, and one beside the bed for ideas I get just before I fall asleep.

(I read somewhere that you have approximately 10 seconds to write down a great idea before it is lost to your next thoughts.)

Write stuff down!

It does not have to mean anything right now, but as you look back over time, you will see a pattern to your thinking. This is part of your intuition trying to guide you.

It is also a good idea to carry a note book to write good ideas in as you are learning who you really are. Once you start clearing the junk out, you make room for your intuition to thrive and motivate you in the direction you should go.

Always write down your “wins”

This is so important. Write down all the times you made a choice and it was the right choice. Many people will come into your life and act like they know more about your life than you do.

Writing out your wins is a reminder that you are already doing your life right. Never forget that.

2. EFT/Tapping

Tapping is a very helpful way to clean negative energy from our body. Strange that we live in a world where this is necessary, but here we are.

Basically, you tap various acupuncture meridian points on your upper body while saying your negative feelings out loud. After you do this a couple of times, you switch over to saying these negatives in a more positive light, while still tapping. Watch this video to see how:

It was amazing how quickly it helped me get over some seriously upsetting feelings in my life.

The event had happened recently, but I was able to clear it in one afternoon with 4 rounds of tapping on different aspects of the pain.

And I have also been able to let go of painful feelings from long ago, like when I was in elementary school and my teacher ignored me when I had my hand up.

She treated me like I was invisible to her, for whatever reason. And for some reason, this memory crops up and brings hurt with it.

I tapped through this not long ago, and now when I think about it, there are no feelings. I am completely neutral about it. Amazing!

There is an amazing assortment of videos on youTube by EFT practitioners.

I always recommend Brad Yates (Tap with Brad) as he has over 600 800 videos on all sorts of helpful subjects. Seriously, why feel bad when you do not have to?

We all have unpleasant memories and regrets. Clear that pain and move on! Emotional pain does not serve you.

I only tap now when some unpleasant memory crops up and I need to clear the pain associated with it. This skill should be taught in grade school as a coping mechanism because it is just that helpful.

Read about Tap With Brad here.

Brad is an awesome teacher of EFT and he makes the process very pleasant!

3. Mirror Work

The awesome Louise Hays, who passed away not long ago at the age of 90, has tons of great self-help stuff at her website Hayhouse publishing.

The one that I want to recommend is “21 days of Mirror Work” by Louise Hays. Mirror work is basically looking into a mirror (or other shiny reflective surface), looking yourself in the eyes and saying something nice about yourself.

Many of us are beat down daily.

We are verbally abused by bosses, taken advantage of by people paid to repair something like our car, and even insulted by strangers. This can take a toll, especially if the negative people in question accidentally confirm our worst suspicions about ourselves.

We deserve better

Even if you have people in your life who are supportive, we often still have those nagging voices inside our heads that tell us that we are unworthy in some way, or worse, unlovable just as we are.

We can learn to love ourselves the way we need to be loved

And we can learn to love ourselves in way that we need. The added benefit of this is that we will also be able to accept the love that is given to us by other people and it will be enough for us.

I know countless people in unhappy relationships (with a partner, with a child, with a job) who want a type of love from others that they cannot give, either because they do not know how or do not understand what you need.

This helps you to be free to love others as they are.

As a side note, the ever amazing Lisa Nichols also has a technique that you can do in the mirror and this also helps us to clear away the negative. Lisa is so inspiring. Check it out:

4. Practice Gratitude

This is a biggy, and by far the easiest way to figure out what your true gifts are. Being thankful for everything that you have and anything that is coming your way is the best way to start being happier and more content with life. And as you become more comfortable with your new life, amazing things will happen. a hear shaped pendant with the words I am grateful written on it

Being grateful brings you more things to be grateful about.

And when you realize that you have the power to bring better things into your life just by being grateful about what you already have, you will start to understand the immense power that you have to change your life into anything you want it to be.

Want a better job? Be grateful for the job you have.

Try to find all the positives about your job, write them down and be grateful.

Want a better relationship with your kids? Write down all the things that you love about them and who they are as people and your relationship with them will change!

I read about this in The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, but I did not understand its power until I put it into practice.

It is a good habit to get into and has many benefits, like changing how you think about the people or “things” in your life.

Gratitude changes everything for the better!

Combine Self-Help Techniques

The beauty of these strategies is that some of them can be combined together.

  • Stuck in traffic? Do some quick tapping while you look into your eyes in the rear view mirror.
  • On a break at work? Journal about that hurtful comment your co-worker made while doing some quick tapping.
  • At the dentist? Try some gratitude that you have a dentist!

Since I have started implementing these strategies in my own life, I am calm about pretty much everything. I have also been able to recognize opportunities to change my life.

I encourage you to eliminate as much negative energy in your own life to not only free yourself, but to free your mind.

Conclusion

Ya, it all sounds pretty woo-woo, but people required their intuition to survive for centuries before these times.

These days, we are told to leave our health with doctors, our sanity with psychologists, our careers to universities, our relationships to online dating sites.

The world tells us that we do not need to trust ourselves.

How is that working out for us??

  4. You know what? You are absolutely right. We do not give ourselves time to process events. That may be why some people have shrinks, or go to confession. Journaling is a good way to process events and be totally honest with ourselves. We should trust ourselves more. I will try these techniques, in combination, too for a healthier, wiser me. Thank you for the article. Will you please write more on these techniques and other techniques you find helpful to us?

  5. Hi Irma,

Thank you for sharing your experience. I completely agree with you, in order to be successful in anything, you must believe in yourself. Doubt is nothing less than belief in failure. I love these strategies, tried them all. In my opinion, gratitude is the most powerful one, and in combination with EFT tapping is even better. Great article!

  6. Hi Irma, I really like the notebook, I already use one. Already on the first day of using it to write down ideas, I could save some good thoughts I had. It took me about three days from wanting to get hold of a book to actually get it and during these days I already started collecting thoughts but didn’t write them down. At least half of them I forgot during the three days.
Thanks for the great tips again here.
    See you, Stefan 🙂

    • Happy New Year Stefan,

I used to be like that as well, and surprisingly it did not take long to get into the habit of writing down my “great ideas”. I actually wrote down an idea for a book the other night! I read once that this is how great inventions come to be…people thought up a great idea and then acted upon it. But you have to remember the idea first! lol

      Cheers,
      Irma 🙂

  7. You said “The world tells us that we do not need to trust ourselves. How is that working out for us??” – and that is absolutely brilliant. It’s a big part of what’s wrong with everyone these days- we’ve lost touch with our gut, third eye, intuition, spidey sense…whatever you wanna call it. Everyone’s out to make money and one way to do that is capitalize on our insecurities. I like the tools you reviewed to build up self esteem and self trust, especially journaling and mirror work. thanks for the great post!

    • Happy New Year Penelope, and thank you for your positive comments!

It is funny that you mention spidey-sense, because there is a recurrent theme in movies (The Avengers movies come to mind) of shady groups of higher-ups trying to keep us subservient by taking away our power or convincing us that they know better what is good for us.

Well, we have the choice/power of what we think and choosing to think positive thought of our own success seems like a great place to start our best year ever!

      Cheers,
      Irma 🙂
